How does an allergist diagnose for Pollen Allergy?
The allergist might check your medical history for any possible repetition of allergy. He or she will also verify if your nasal mucous membranes show as being inflated and is pale or bluish. Then, he or she would conduct a series of skin tests or blood tests for some patients for whom skin test is undesirable. These tests are conducted to determine which type of pollen caused the allergy in the former and to identify levels of immunoglobulin E in the latter. The former, however, is less expensive and more perceptive.
Other diagnoses done include: radiography; CT scanning; and nasal cytology.
